Your shop is open 24 hours a day. Your team is not. Customers browse after dinner, on the train, at weekends, and their questions do not wait for office hours. A 24/7 online consultant for an online store sounds like a big-company luxury, but there are several ways to get there, and they differ a lot in cost and in what they actually cover. This article compares them honestly and shows how to prepare for the busiest weeks of the year.

## When do your customers actually ask?

Start with your own data, because the answer is not always "at night". Horoshop analysed 9.4 million orders from 11,560 online stores in the first half of 2026. Orders peaked around 11:00 and on Mondays, with the lowest activity at weekends. But only [38% of daily orders were placed between 09:00 and 14:00](https://dengi.ua/ua/business/9762855-onlajn-pokupki-scho-kupuyut-i-skilki-vitrachayut-ukrayintsi-u-2026-rotsi). The other 62% are spread across the rest of the day, including the evening hours when most small shops have nobody on chat.

Questions also come before orders. Someone who asks at 22:30 may plan to buy the next morning, if they get an answer. If they do not, the morning purchase may happen somewhere else. We explain why reply speed matters so much in [the cost of slow replies](/journal/cost-of-slow-replies-online-store).

To check your own pattern, export a month of chats and count them by hour. Mark the hours when nobody was available to answer. That gap is what "24/7" has to cover in your shop.

## Five ways to answer customers around the clock

### 1. Night and weekend shifts

A person on chat in the evening and at weekends. Real answers, real judgement. It is also the most expensive option: someone has to be paid for hours that may bring only a few chats, and covering every night needs more than one person. For a detailed cost comparison, see [AI consultant cost vs a support operator](/journal/ai-consultant-cost-vs-operator).

### 2. Outsourced support

An outside call centre or freelance operators. Cheaper per hour than your own staff, but they do not know your products. They need scripts, training and access to stock information, and they still answer slower than someone who knows the catalog.

### 3. Auto-reply

"Thank you for your message, we'll reply during working hours." Honest, free, and it does not sell anything. It is better than silence, because it sets expectations. It does not answer the question.

### 4. FAQ page and better product pages

The cheapest permanent fix. Clear delivery, payment and returns pages answer many questions before they are asked. But customers rarely search a FAQ page at 23:00. They type into the chat.

### 5. An AI assistant

An assistant that reads your product feed and your site can answer availability, price, specs, delivery and payment questions in seconds at any hour. It does not get tired at peaks. Its limits are equally clear: it cannot decide on a refund, offer a wholesale price or look up an order. Those conversations still need a person in the morning.

## Comparing the options

| Option | Answers product questions | Handles complaints and exceptions | Night and weekend coverage | Effort to start |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Night shifts | Yes | Yes | As far as you staff it | Hiring, training |
| Outsourcing | With scripts | Partly | Yes | Scripts, onboarding |
| Auto-reply | No | No | Yes | Minutes |
| FAQ page | If found | No | Yes | Writing |
| AI assistant | Yes, from your data | Hands over to a person | Yes | Feed, domain, widget |

Most shops end up with a mix: an AI assistant for the repetitive layer at any hour, written policy pages it can rely on, and people for the conversations that need a decision.

## What a 24/7 online consultant for an online store should do

Whatever you choose, an always-on consultant should meet a few conditions:

- **Answer from your data, not from memory.** Prices, stock and delivery terms must come from your catalog and your site. An assistant that guesses at night creates problems you discover in the morning.
- **Say "I don't know" when it doesn't.** A missing answer is better than a wrong one.
- **Hand over cleanly.** If a customer needs a person at 02:00, tell them a manager will reply in the same chat, and make sure that manager sees it first thing. See [when a chatbot should hand over to a human](/journal/when-ai-should-hand-over-to-manager).
- **Work where your customers are.** For many Ukrainian shops that means the website and Telegram. Our comparison of [website chat widget vs Telegram](/journal/website-widget-vs-telegram) helps you decide where to start.
- **Protect personal data.** Night or day, the consultant should not ask customers for card numbers or passport details.

## Getting ready for the holiday peak

Black Friday falls on 27 November in 2026, and the weeks before New Year follow straight after. Peaks are when a 24/7 consultant matters most, because even a team that answers quickly during the day falls behind.

1. **Update policy pages before the peak.** Holiday delivery deadlines, extended returns, promo terms. Write them on your site.
2. **Check your feed.** Sale prices and old prices must be in the export, and the feed must update often enough to follow stock.
3. **Plan your dialog volume.** Count last year's chats for the same weeks and add a margin.
4. **Agree who handles handovers** during the peak, including weekends.
5. **Test before the rush.** Ask your assistant the ten questions you expect most and check every answer.

## How Vendigit covers the night shift

Vendigit's assistant answers on your website widget on every paid plan, and in Telegram from the Growth plan. It works around the clock and replies in seconds, in Ukrainian, Russian or English, the customer's language. Product answers come from your feed; names, prices and links are filled in from it, not typed by the AI. Delivery, payment and returns answers come from your own site's pages.

When a customer needs a person, the dialog is marked for a manager, the people you choose get an email, and the conversation waits in your dashboard. In the morning a manager can reply, or take the dialog over, which keeps the assistant quiet in it until the manager hands it back.

A dialog on your plan counts once for every 8 customer messages. Starter includes 300 dialogs a month, Growth 2,000 and Business 4,000. You get an email at 80% of the month's dialogs. If they run out, new customers see your shop's contact details instead of an answer until the next month or an upgrade, so plan peak months with a margin. Prices and limits are on [the plans section](/pricing).

## FAQ

### Do I need a 24/7 consultant if most orders come during the day?

Probably yes. Even with a daytime peak, a large share of orders and questions fall outside working hours. Count your own chats by hour before deciding.

### Can an AI assistant replace my night manager completely?

It can answer the repetitive questions, which are most of the volume. Complaints, refunds, wholesale and order questions still need a person, and those can wait for the morning with a clear handover.

### What should customers see when nobody is online?

An answer if the question is about products, delivery or payment. For anything else, a clear message that a manager will reply in the same chat.

### Does the assistant work at weekends and on holidays?

Yes. It does not have working hours. Only the handovers wait for your team.
